S.T.o.P. - Sustainable Transport of People & Products
Point380 worked with a global NGO and an international retailer to quantify and identify opportunities to reduce the carbon emissions generated by the transportation of people and products to and from the retailer’s box stores. Point380 created an emissions model that analyzed baseline and the impact of emissions reductions strategies. The Analysis included the evaluation of various alternative modes of transit including low emissions vehicles, alternative fuel vehicles and mass transit across stores worldwide (330+ facilities). Notably, the analysis identified significant potential for improvement in the home delivery component of the retailer’s distribution network. The project provided the basis for a featured presentation by the clients at the 2010 BSR Conference.
Mining Company Energy Technology Strategy
Point380 developed and co-led a process with an NGO project partner to establish a company-wide energy technology strategy for a global mining company. The process included a first phase to identify and prioritize efficiency and renewable energy techniques and technologies. In the second phase, Point380 conducted interviews with leaders of key divisions and technical specialists within the company to align and embed strategic understanding in key decision-makers. In 2011 the company’s executive committee approved the recommended strategy for global adoption.
Carbon Risk Analysis - Food & Beverage Industry
Point380 performed a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the risk of carbon regulations faced by an international food company throughout its worldwide operations spread over 50+ plants in 20 countries. The project verified and improved the client’s GHG inventory as part of a scenario analysis process to educate and inform senior management regarding carbon policy risk. Carbon legislation for those countries in which the company operates was studied for existing and potential future carbon regulations, and a model of compliance cost was tailored for each plant and multiple regulatory scenarios.
Company-wide Energy and GHG Monitoring Program
Point380 developed the Commercial Building Assessment Tool (CBAT) to aid a U.S. publishing company’s effort to monitor and manage energy consumption and GHG emissions from their campus and fulfillment operations. The CBAT enabled the publisher to review, identify and prioritize sustainability projects and energy efficiency improvements. Also the CBAT allowed easy update of annual emissions and evaluation of company-wide energy efficiency campaigns over a multi-year horizon.
Sustainable Merchandising System Product Design
Point380 collaborated with a retail environment design firm, their multi-national corporate client and their manufacturing contractor to integrate sustainability objectives and strategies into a merchandising display design. Point380's recommendations steered the design team to focus on high-value and achievable objectives and to quickly identify crucial sustainability goals in a fast-moving design process.
CDP Third Party Verification of GHG Emissions Inventory
Point380 developed GHG emissions inventory verification reports in support of its clients’ Investor CDP 2011, 2012 and 2013 filings. Point380 conducted the verifications in accordance with The Climate Registry’s General Verification Protocol and ISO 14064 series of standards and related GHG program protocols, which includes the collection of evidence supporting the reported emissions data, and determination of whether the elements of the protocol referenced were consistently and appropriately applied. Each verification report was based on a review of the organization’s Scope 1, Scope 2 and limited Scope 3 emissions, which included assessment of the GHG information system, monitoring and reporting plan/protocol. Each verification report included a statement of verification and CDP response guidance specifically relating to verification questions.
GHG Emissions Inventory Development and Emissions Offset Review
Point380 developed the 2010 GHG emissions inventory for a Chicago-based third party logistics provider. The inventory included Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions for all owned and operated buildings and fleet vehicles. In addition, Point380 provided analysis and review of emissions offset options, and guidance with how to effectively make the logistics company a net carbon-neutral organization for the 2010 calendar year.
